About the Bureau

A legacy in library science

Established in 1966 in Karachi by Professor Ghani ul Akram Sabzwari, the Library Promotion Bureau is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to libraries and the profession that sustains them.

The Library Promotion Bureau (LPB) functions independently for the benefit of the library profession and the public. It is not affiliated with any political party or religious organization. From its founding in Karachi to the present day, the Bureau has served as a steady advocate for library development across Pakistan — through publication, education, advisory work, and quiet, consistent stewardship.
